Dr. Kathryn Gray Skinner, a native Nashvillian, has worked at Belmont University since 1990 as Director of International Education, Associate Dean of Students, and presently as Director of International Student Services.  She began her career teaching and administering English as Second Language programs in North Carolina and Nashville. She has worked in five public, private, for profit, and not for profit schools and universities. Her interest in international education began when spent a year as a high school exchange student to Germany.

She has a B.A.  English/German from Peabody College, a M.Ed. in Educational Administration from Winthrop University, and received her Ed. D. in 2007 from Vanderbilt University in Higher Education Administration.

Kathy’s role at Belmont includes welcoming international students to Belmont’s varied offerings and serving as an advocate and friend.  This includes: academics, visas/immigration, cultural programs, orientation, hosting exchange programs, and the various issues involved with getting comfortable in a new county and city. In addition she organizes visits of visiting dignitaries, has been a mentor in the Metro Public Schools New teacher program, and works closely with Belmont’s foreign language department.

She is active in NAFSA: Association of International Educators and co-founded Music City NAFSA (a group of local international educators). She received a Fulbright to Germany in 1997 with the U.S. Administrators in International Education program. She has travelled the world extensively with Belmont students, her grown sons, and her church. She enjoys international travel, hiking, and writing.
