Research shows that the quality of CPR has a direct effect on patient outcomes from cardiac arrest and that many caregivers do not perform CPR within the guidelines established by the American Heart Association (AHA). HeartCode BLS is the official, self-directed, comprehensive e-learning program from the AHA that has been designed to address these critical issues, and it is now available at Belmont University.
HeartCode BLS tests caregivers’ skills using the Voice Assisted Manikin (VAM) system. Studies indicate that the manikin feedback can almost immediately improve basic CPR skills performance. Learners also complete an interactive, cognitive portion that includes realistic patient scenarios and provides access to AHA reference material. And, with HeartCode BLS, you will save time and money compared to traditional CPR classes.
HeartCode is an interactive program which completes the requirements for the American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers course. Learners complete a computer-based cognitive portion consisting of lessons teaching the BLS algorithm; realistic adult and infant patient cases that test knowledge of the correct sequence of patient care activities and give the student a detailed debriefing of performance; and a multiple choice exam.
The learner must then demonstrate CPR skills by using the voice-assisted manikin system that connects to the HeartCode program. The manikin system is located in the Health Care Simulation Center of Belmont University at the Gordon E. Inman College of Health Sciences & Nursing on Belmont University's campus in Nashville. This final course component is available by appointment during the day on Monday through Friday. HeartCode BLS can be used for initial or renewal certification.
