The University and Health Services will remain vigilant regarding any new recommendations from the CDC or Metro Public Health Department. We thank you for your ongoing commitment to keeping our campus safe and healthy.

How to Prevent Illness

There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19 infection. The best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, the CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:

  • If you’re feeling sick, stay in your home.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

These are everyday habits that can help prevent the spread of several viruses. CDC does have specific guidance for travelers.

We will continue to update the community as new information becomes available. In the meantime, be aware that the Belmont Health Services clinic (615-460-5506) is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m.-noon, and our professional staff is ready to assist you. The clinic is located on the first floor of McWhorter Hall. The Health Services website also lists other local clinics with additional hours of operation.
