In the event of confirmed cases, Belmont will follow CDC guidelines and work closely with city, state and federal public health officials. In addition, Belmont is taking several steps to ensure the safety and health of the university community, including but not limited to the following:
- Belmont has a Pandemic Preparedness Team made up of representatives of several areas across campus that have been meeting on this issue for many months, even prior to H1N1. This team meets regularly to monitor this ongoing situation.
- Hand sanitizer has been placed in high-traffic areas across campus.
- Belmont Health Services has stockpiled masks, tissues and latex gloves and has ordered additional Tamiflu. In addition, Health Services has boosted its supply of seasonal flu vaccine and has also requested the maximum amount of the H1N1 vaccine possible once it's available.
- Posters on campus and in all residence halls to outline preventative measures one can take to stay healthy.
- Informational brochures were distributed during Welcome Week events to new students which discussed ways of staying healthy, flu prevention and what to do if symptoms occur.
- Members of the Pandemic Preparedness Team participated in a conference call with the CDC which outlined guidance for institutions of higher education.
- CDC guidelines would be followed with confirmed cases (click here for guidelines). The university would also work closely with city, state and federal public health officials.
