Sharon Dowdy

Hello, I am Sharon Dowdy, and I have been at Belmont University since 1985. Originally from South Georgia, I have also lived in Florida, North Carolina, Maryland, and Germany. I will be living in Leeds, England for the 2002-2003 academic year. Obviously, I enjoy travel and change.

I received my B.S.N. from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and my M.S.N. and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University here in Nashville. I have been on the long-term education plan, receiving my M.S.N. 12 years after my B.S.N. and my Ph.D. 14 years after my M.S.N. I consider myself a life-long learner. My research interests are in social support and persons coping with chronic illnesses. In the graduate research sequence which I co-teach, we have been exploring spirituality and quality-of-life in older persons using qualitative and quantitative research approaches.

My husband and I have two grown children in graduate school. We enjoy entertaining, reading, and interacting with college students and friends.
