Sarah Bowles

























Sarah Bowles, Assistant Professor English, teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in writing and rhetoric. She came to Belmont in 2008 after receiving a Ph.D. in English from Miami University, where she specialized in Rhetoric and Composition; she also holds degrees from Eastern Kentucky University (B.A., 2000) and Auburn University (M.A., 2003).

Dr. Bowles's research and teaching interests include composition theory, rhetorical history, women's rhetoric, literacy studies, and rhetorics of popular culture. Her dissertation, Troublesome Inventions: The Rhetoric of the Hindman Settlement School, 1902-1927, analyzes the fundraising literature produced on behalf of a rural Appalachian social settlement founded at the turn of the twentieth century. Dr. Bowles has published in the journals Pedagogy and Praxis and is a frequent presenter at professional conferences.
