Message from the Chair

Dr. Joy KimmonsOn behalf of the faculty, staff, and teacher candidates, welcome to the Department of Education at Belmont University. We are a department dedicated to preparing the best teachers in the state of Tennessee. This dedication is evident in our departmental theme: Building together for excellence in education. Building is represented by our belief in the constructivist philosophy. We believe that learning is an active process with the instructor serving as the facilitator and the learner ultimately responsible for his or her own learning. Our programs are steeped in excellence as reflected in the application of nationally recognized standards. Our commitment to the children and youth ultimately served by the teachers we prepare is firmly grounded in the premise that today's children are tomorrow's future, with a quality education as the key to that future.

We offer numerous programs for aspiring teachers. Our programs prepare teachers to serve in a variety of age groups (e.g., preschool-third grade, fourth-eighth grade, high school, and kindergarten-twelfth grade). If you are interested in teaching within unique settings, we also offer programs in Special Education, Montessori, and Learning Communities. Check us out!

If you have additional questions after visiting our site, please feel free to contact us. Once again welcome!
