In response to the second year students' need for developmental assistance with exploring their individual worth and relevant vocational opportunities, Belmont is introducing the Sophomore Transitions Center.


The Center will offer students a personalized experience that is tailored to their developmental needs.  Staffed by a full-time director and two part-time coaches, the Center will provide students with the opportunity to engage in reflective conversation in a neutral environment.  During coaching sessions, students can expect to engage in critical thinking about their classes, extracurricular and co-curricular activities, personal values, and strengths.  Coaches can also offer an elevated level of accountability by helping students draft Individualized Action Plans (IAP).

The mission of the Center is to help students successfully get where they want to go and to be the best version of themselves along the way.  Through asking the tough questions that steer life's course, this personalized point of contact will challenge students to take an introspective look at their identity and to be a driving force in their own lives. 


The main components of the Sophomore Transitions Center experience will be:

  • One-on-one coaching tailored to each student's needs
  • Exploration of majors, co-curricular activities, and career possibilities
  • Taking the FOCUS Assessment to discover compatible career paths
  • Drafting an IAP that may include the StrengthsFinder Assessment
     

Students are invited to visit the Sophomore Transitions Center located on the second floor of Lila D. Bunch Library.
