The Communication Studies major is great for student's seeking a generalist approach to communication. In our five core courses, you will develop your capabilities in speaking, writing, teamwork, critical thinking, and interpersonal communication. Beyond those, you'll have plenty of electives in and outside of the department. You'll work one-on-one with an advisor to design a program of study appropriate for your personal and career goals. Our alumni are ministers, politicians, teachers, full-time parents, business executives, entrepreneurs, public relations professionals, attorneys, professors, consultants, and best of all—well-rounded thinkers!
“In the Communication Studies program, I learned persuasive writing skills that helped me advance in my early career at a public relations agency. Immersion in rhetorical and interpersonal theory helped me fully realize the power of communication to get things done, and I used persuasion, empathy, deep listening, and perspective-taking skills both in my role as marketing program manager of a major hospital system and now as director of marketing at a healthcare technology start-up.”
