Conversational Solfege, Levels I and II: A FAME (Feierabend Association for Music Education) Certification Course

Orff Schulwerk Certification Course 

Orff Summer Program, Level I
• Development of total child
• Natural communication through sound and movement
• Activities include speaking, singing, moving, playing unpitched and barred instruments and recorder
• Features creative movement, singing games and folk dance

Prerequisites for Orff Training Level I
*Bachelor Degree in Music or Music Education (or equivalent)
                    OR
*Undergraduate Senior in Music Education

Level I:
Orff Pedagogy I: Basic Concepts
Minimum: 14 participants
Instructor: Susan Ramsay and Anne Schwartzenberg
Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Initial level draws from the three components of Orff-Schulwerk teacher training: experiential, conceptual, and pedagogical. Skills necessary to plan and implement a variety of Orff-Schulwerk music and movement activities are learned working with the materials and procedures of the Orff-Schulwerk instructional model.

Initial level provides substantial experience-based learning that develops basic skills in movement, recorder, and the synthesis of music and movement through elemental styles/literature of global cultures.

 

Conversational Solfege, Levels I and II: A FAME Certification Course

FAME (Feierabend Association for Music Education)

The chief aim of the Feierabend Approach is to build community through music by evoking enthusiastic participation of all people. To that end this approach strives for all people to become tuneful, beatful and artful through research based and developmentally appropriate pedagogies that use quality literature. These goals remain of primary importance at any age as they serve as the foundation for all further musical development.

Accomplish these goals by learning authentic folk songs and folk dances and further the understanding and appreciate of music through making connections from folk songs and dances to masterworks.

Learning notation, playing instruments and giving performances are secondary goals and should be introduced only after individuals become tuneful, beatful and artful.  

Prerequisites for Conversational Solfege, Levels I and II

*Bachelors Degree in Music or Music Education (or equivalent)
                    OR
*Undergraduate Senior in Music Education

Conversational Solfege Workshop
Minimum: 14 participants
Instructor: John Feierabend

Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 3 p.m. with an hour for lunch. Class ends at noon on Thursday.

  1. Complete Online Orff Registration Form and pay $100.00 non-refundable enrollment deposit (by credit card or check made payable to Belmont University)
  2. Pay remaining balance of workshop fee (by credit card or check made payable to Belmont University). This can be completed on or before the first day of class. Details will be emailed to registrants.

Conversational Solfege, Levels I and II Music Workshop - Total Cost: $450

  1. Complete Online FAME Registration Form and pay $100.00 non-refundable enrollment deposit (by credit card or check made payable to Belmont University)

John Feierabend
Conversational Solfege, Levels I and II

  • John Feierabend is considered one of the leading authorities on music and movement development.
  • He is a professor emeritus of music at The Hartt School of the University of Hartford and is past president of the Organization of American Kodaly Educators as well as a NAfME Lowell Mason Fellow.
  • A music educator for more than thirty years, he continues to be committed to collecting, preserving and teaching the diverse folk music of our country and using that folk music as a bridge to help children understand and enjoy classical music.
  • His work is based on his belief that many generations can share common experiences such as traditional folk songs and rhymes, which can help develop a valuable but dwindling commodity – a sense of community.
