Belmont Wind Ensemble,
directed by Dr. Barry Kraus

The Belmont Wind Ensemble is comprised of the finest woodwind, brass, and percussion musicians on campus. Participation in the Wind Ensemble provides exposure to diverse literature including chamber music and traditional and contemporary words for wind band. During each concert season, visiting conductors and composers interact with students as part of a comprehensive educational experience. The Belmont Wind Ensemble has given featured performances at the Tennessee Music Educators Association State Conference and the National In-Service Conference of the National Association for Music Education. The ensemble tours each spring and has performed in Knoxville, Memphis, Chattanooga, Clarksville, and throughout the greater Nashville area.

Membership is open to all students by audition regardless of major. Auditions consist of prepared excerpts and take place during Welcome Week. Information is posted on the MyBelmont website under ‘Ensemble Auditions.’ Stipends are available to qualified performers, and some university-owned instruments are available for use. The Wind Ensemble rehearses Monday/Wednesday/Friday 12:00-1:50 PM, and the course (MUN 4900) is available for one hour of ensemble credit.

Those who wish to pursue advanced study with an emphasis in conducting have ample podium time with the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band. Belmont provides a unique setting in which graduate students receive concentrated attention from faculty, numerous performance opportunities, and frequent access to the Nashville music culture.
