Concert Band

Belmont Concert BandThe Belmont Concert Band is a university ensemble led by Dr. Barry Kraus that studies excellent band literature and provides wind and percussion players of all majors with an artistic opportunity to perform in a concert ensemble.  As well, the concert band serves as an outlet for vocal and instrumental music-education majors to study a secondary instrument and provides a lab setting for conducting students. Membership is open to all students by audition regardless of major.  Some university-owned instruments are available for use. No audition is required, but a short part-placement audition will be held to determine seating in the ensemble. The Concert Band meets in the fall and spring semesters on Mondays and Fridays, 3:00-4:20 p.m. in McAfee Concert Hall and performs between two and four concerts annually. The course (MUN 4730.01: Concert Band) is available for one hour of credit.

Graduate Assistantships

One graduate assistantship is available through the University Band Program every two years for a student to assist with administration and direction of the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and athletic bands. Those who wish to pursue advanced study with an emphasis in conducting have ample podium time with the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band. Belmont provides a unique setting in which graduate students receive concentrated attention from faculty, numerous performance opportunities, and frequent access to the Nashville music culture.
