picture of school of music faculty kelly hoppenjansKelly Hoppenjans has been an adjunct instructor in Commercial Voice at Belmont since spring of 2017. She earned her Master of Music in Commercial Voice from Belmont in 2015, and her Bachelor of Music in Music Theatre from Northwestern University in 2011. Her graduate work focused on researching how successful singer-songwriters use their unique vocal qualities to craft an individual writing and performing style, and she prides herself on using this research to help her students find their own unique styles as artists. She also devised a system for assessing vocal qualities and presented it at the 2016 NATS Conference in Chicago as a poster paper.

In addition to her teaching work, Kelly is also an active recording artist and performer; she has released two EPs and regularly performs in Nashville and on tour as a solo artist. In 2017, she was honored as a finalist in the New Folk songwriting competition and in Lightning 100's Music City Mayhem competition. Kelly brings her real world experience as an independent artist to her students, offering them a fresh and current perspective on their futures in music.
