Angela Carr Forsythe

angelapicWith a voice that has been described as having a "gorgeous, resonant ring", Dr. Angela Carr Forsythe has sung in churches and halls throughout the Eastern United States and Japan. She has appeared as a soloist with the Nashville Symphony, New England Light Opera, and The Nashville Choir. In April 2015, she received an award in the Kentucky Bach Choir's Audrey Rooney Vocal Competition. Recently she performed as soprano soloist for Vivaldi's Gloria, Dubois' Les sept paroles du Christ, and Bach's Magnificat. In May 2016, she performed Bach's Cantata 51 for Nashville's BACHanalia celebration, as well as Nicolas Bernier's solo coffee cantata Le caffe' for the Music City Baroque Coffee House series.

In addition to her classical experience, Angela has been involved in Christian music as a singer, keyboardist, and worship leader, ministering at churches, retreats, and Christian conference centers. She is an active session singer in Nashville with recent sessions including Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary float in the Rose Bowl Parade, background vocals for the new Flyover America ride at The Mall of America, and movie trailers for Brand X Music. She has also sung in choirs for well-known Christian artists such as Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant, Wintley Phipps, and Jars of Clay. In 2012, she performed as a back-up singer for the Larnelle Live in Nashville taped concert performance and has had several session singing opportunities, including Jeremy Camp's We Cry Out: The Worship Project album. In 2009, she was chosen as one of the Top 15 semi-finalists out of 868 entries in the Smithsonian's "O Say Can You Sing?" National Anthem Contest, and in 2007, performed in Boston’s Symphony Hall as one of the top sixteen vocalists in the Boston Pops Popsearch.

In 2015, Angela earned a Doctor of Arts degree in Voice Performance from Ball State University and also received the university’s Doctoral Excellence in Teaching award for outstanding teaching, innovation, and leadership. Her dissertation, “Solo Angel Roles in Vocal Music: Tracing the Use of Angel Roles from 1600 to the Present,” analyzes the use of angel roles in seven specific works and compares the musical elements of angel vocal music from the past four hundred years. She holds a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from the Longy School of Music and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Voice Performance from Eastern Nazarene College. In addition to teaching at Belmont, Angela teaches voice to commercial and musical theater students at Lipscomb University.
