Robert H. Magruder, Ph.D.



Professor Robert Magruder received his BA, MS and PhD from Vanderbilt University.   He joined the Department of Chemistry and Physics in 1984 and now serves as chair of the department.   His teaching responsibilities include medical physics, electricity and magnetism, acoustics and general physics.   His research centers on formation and modification of metallic nanocrystals in high purity glass and crystals by ion implantation as well as the linear and nonlinear optical properties of these metal nanocrystals dielectric composites.   Additional areas of research include the optical properties of the intrinsic defects in silica and fabrication of piezoresistivity materials.
