The Master of Science with a major in Audio Engineering is designed for individuals seeking to advance their academic and practical skills in audio engineering, audio coding and programming, acoustics, and sound production. Students explore the science, systems, and the technology of audio engineering through applied practice and research in signal processing, systems development, sound for media, auditory perception, and of course, music-oriented computing, recording, and production.

MSAE courses mirror today’s dynamic and diverse audio professions with study in the areas of…

  • • Acoustic and Electroacoustic Measurement and Design
  • Reinforcement and Concert Mixing
  • Critical Listening for Audio & Music Production
  • • Sound Design for Mixed Media
  • • Auditory Perception and Hearing Science
  • • Digital Audio, Computer Programming, and Signal Analysis
  • • Audio Signal Processing
  • Mastering and Sonic Blending

We also allow independent and directed study and our faculty encourage novel research in specialty areas of interest unique to each individual student.

The student attracted to this program is looking for an environment that fosters applied research and practice and is seeking opportunities to acquire new knowledge and develop new skills in the science, art, and application of audio engineering for sound recording, music production, acoustics, signal processing, and new product development.
