Mission Statement:
The Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business strives
to combine professional and academic experience with real world applications
and seeks to achieve its mission by implementing innovative courses of
study in the entertainment and music industries.
Goals:
The Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business has the
following goals:
- To provide a personalized,
career-oriented and practical education that emphasizes leadership,
innovation, private enterprise and entrepreneurship.
- To equip students
with the tools to think critically, communicate effectively, accept
responsibility, make successful decisions, and prosper in diverse work
environments.
- To emphasize quality
classroom instruction within the parameters of ethical Christian principles.
The Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business offers two areas
of undergraduate study, one concentrated in Music Business leading to
the Bachelor of Business Administration* degree (B.B.A.) and the other
concentrated in Audio Engineering Technology leading to either the Bachelor
of Science (B.S.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. The College also
maintains a post-graduate specialization in Entertainment and Music Business
within the Masters of Business Administration** degree (M.B.A.).
Music Business (MBU)
The major in Music Business consists of three areas of study. Music Business
majors complete the B.B.A. General Education core, a Business Administration
base comprising tool and core subjects, and a specialization in either
Music Business or Music Production.
Audio Engineering Technology (AET)
Students of the Audio Engineering Technology program complete the B.S.
or B.A. General Education core and a technical concentration in Audio
Engineering Technology . Audio Engineering students also pursue supplemental
studies in an approved related discipline (minor) such as electronics
and/or computer science, broadcasting and media studies, music performance
or commercial music, or a business discipline such as business administration
or entrepreneurship.
Progression
Requirements
The following requirements apply to students pursuing the Music Business
(MBU) and Audio Engineering Technology (AET) majors:
1. As a condition of graduation, full- and part-time CEMB students are
required to register for Seminar (MBU/AET-4000) each semester of enrollment.
Seminar and Showcase attendance requirements follow University policy
and are specified in the MBU/AET-4000 course syllabus. Students having
obtained eight (8) semesters of passing credit for MBU/AET-4000 are exempt
from this requirement.
2. A maximum of six (6) credit hours of MBU 3000 (Internship) may be
counted towards degree completion in the Music Business major.
3. With regard to “double-majors” or the pursuit of multiple
degrees, individual course credit may not be applied to more than one
major or concentration. With regard to transfer classes, individual course
credit is not guaranteed and credit toward major and concentration requirements
will be applied only after successful completion of the appropriate placement
test(s).
4. Unless otherwise specified, all study abroad courses will be credited
on a Pass/Fail (P/F) basis. Final decisions on issuance of grade credit
for study abroad will be at the discretion of the University Registrar.
5. All CEMB students are required to earn a minimum grade of “C”
in all courses within their major area of study (technical, tool, core,
and concentration).
6. All CEMB students must complete a minimum of 50% of their coursework
at Belmont University and must pass a comprehensive “Exit Examination”
with a minimum grade of seventy percentile (70%) during the semester prior
to graduation.
