International Students
Belmont welcomes international
students into its undergraduate programs and is authorized to issue F-1
(student) and J-1 (exchange visitor) documentation for obtaining visas.
International students interested in attending Belmont University should
direct all contact with regards to applying for admission to the Office
of International Education. Application materials are available online
or may be requested from the Office of International Education. All completed
materials should be sent directly to the Office of International Education.
The deadlines for receipt of application materials for international students
are August 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester.
Application Instructions for International Students Applying
for Non-immigrant Visas
1. Complete and sign the application for admission.
2. Send the $50.00 non-refundable application fee, made payable to Belmont
University.
3. Applicants whose native language is not English must submit official
score results from the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language);
a minimum score of 550 (or 213 CBT) is required for admission. In lieu
of the TOEFL, applicants may submit an official academic record demonstrating
successful completion of ELS Language Center Level 112.
4. International students who wish to be considered for academic or
athletic scholarships must submit official test scores from either the
SAT-1 or ACT.
5. Applicants with college level course work from foreign institutions
must have their transcripts evaluated by a credential evaluation service
such as World Education Services (WES).
6. Submit other documents as outlined in the application booklet.
After admission has been granted to the university, international
students must complete the following additional requirements:
1. Complete the Sponsor Statement indicating the individual responsible
for financing your education and have it notarized. (Note: A bank statement
is NOT sufficient. Financial documentation is required by US Immigration
for visa issuance.)
2. Send the completed Enrollment Confirmation booklet and tuition deposit
of $3,000* to Belmont University. This deposit applies to the first
semester fees. After the Office of International Education receives
notice that the deposit has been received, an I-20 will be issued. Charges
for tuition and fees must be paid at the time of registration each semester.
3. Students requesting to live on campus must complete the housing portion
of the Enrollment Confirmation booklet. A $100 housing deposit will
be deducted from the tuition deposit.
4. Apply for the visa by taking the Belmont University offer of admission
letter and I-20 to the nearest American embassy or consulate. Please
check with the U.S. Department of State, www.unitedstatesvisas.gov,
for specific information about obtaining an appointment for a visa interview
and paying the appropriate fees.
5. All international students must purchase health and accident insurance
coverage. Information and application for an insurance plan with coverage
for hospitalization, surgical benefits and medical care may be obtained
through the Office of International Education.
*Students who do not enroll as scheduled may request
a $2,900 refund of the tuition deposit, if requested within 90 days
after the close of registration.
Application to the University for Resident Aliens
or Permanent Residents
Applicants who are permanent residents or resident aliens may follow the
application instructions for domestic students with one exception. All
international applicants whose native language is not English must submit
official score results from the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language);
a minimum score of 550 (or 213 CBT) is required for admission. In lieu
of the TOEFL, applicants may submit an official academic record demonstrating
successful completion of ELS Language Center Level 112.
