Entering Belmont University | International Students

International Students

International students interested in attending Belmont University should write or call the International Student Services office for application materials. To apply to the university, follow the instructions below. All materials should be sent to the Director of International Student Services. The deadlines for application materials are August 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester.

Application to the University for International Students Outside the U.S.

  1. Complete and sign the application.
  2. Send a $50.00 non-refundable application fee, made payable to Belmont University.
  3. Submit an official copy of the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and the SAT I (Scholastic Aptitude Test 1-Reasoning) or ACT. A minimum score on each test is required for admission.
  4. Submit official transcripts of all high school work. Transfer students from a college or university should submit official transcripts for all schools attended.
  5. Submit other paperwork as outlined in the application booklet.
  6. Complete the Sponsoršs Statement indicating the person who will finance your education and have it notarized. (Note: A bank statement is not sufficient for this. The sponsor statement is required by Immigration to determine who is responsible for paying the tuition.)

Application to the University for Resident Aliens or Permanent Residents

  1. Complete and sign the application.
  2. Send a $35.00 non-refundable application fee, made payable to Belmont University.
  3. Submit an official copy of the TOEFL and SAT/ACT score.
  4. Submit official transcripts of all high school work. Transfer students from a college or university should submit official transcripts for all schools attended.
  5. Submit other paperwork as outlined in the application booklet.

Applications without the application fee, official TOEFL scores, and official transcripts cannot be processed. After all required items are received, the application will be presented to the University Admissions Committee for a final decision regarding admission.

After acceptance has been granted to the university, international students must complete the following additional requirements:

  1. Send the completed Enrollment Confirmation booklet and tuition deposit of $3,000* to Belmont University. This deposit applies to the first semester fees. After the International Student Services office receives notice that the deposit has been received, an I-20 will be issued. Charges for tuition and fees must be paid at the time of registration each semester.
  2. Students living on campus need to complete the housing portion of the Enrollment Confirmation booklet. A $100 housing deposit will be deducted from the tuition deposit.
  3. All international students must purchase health and accident insurance coverage. Information and application for an insurance plan with coverage for hospitalization, surgical benefits and medical care may be obtained through the International Office. The insurance plan is offered by an independent insurance company. Belmont University assumes no responsibility for the terms or claims filed.
  4. Take the Belmont University Statement of Admission and I-20 to the American embassy to get a visa.
  5. All students for whom English is a second language must take English 100 during their first semester, unless they demonstrate proficiency on the Belmont University English Placement Test, required for all incoming international students. English 100 develops the academic skills, oral and written, necessary for performing in the American university system. Any student who scores a passing grade on the English Placement Test may take English 101, or they may choose to begin with English 100. (Once a student completes English 101 with a passing grade, they may not take English 100 for credit.)
  6. To fulfill core requirements, a student who possesses native-level fluency in a foreign language taught at Belmont University may enroll in language courses at the 300-level and above, with permission of the instructor and department chair. In this case only, the student may combine three (3) hours of a language course (300-level or above) with three (3) hours of a literature course with an ENG prefix (200-level or above).

*Students who do not enroll as scheduled may request a $2,900 refund of the tuition deposit, if requested within 90 days after the close of registration.
