  1. Correspondence coursework in foreign language is not accepted as credit for Belmont students. 200 level language courses meet requirements both in the B.A. General Education Core and in the foreign language major/minor. Because the Bachelor of Arts Core is a language-based program of study, the 200-level language courses insure that students achieve proficiency in the vocabulary and grammar required for reading, speaking, and writing in a second language. In the foreign language major/minor program, the proficiency required by 200-level language courses provides the basis for the extended study of language and culture undertaken in the 300- and 400-level courses. Students who have had three years or more of a foreign language in high school may be ready to begin language study at Belmont with the 200-level courses. Incoming students with previous language study are encouraged to consult instructors in each language to determine specific placement.

  2. The core requirement in foreign language is waived for students majoring or minoring in foreign language.

  3. Transfer credit for Religion 111 and 112 will be allowed only for courses in the survey of the Old Testament and New Testament which match course descriptions in the bulletin.

  4. A music major or minor must elect Music 211. Those seeking licensure to teach should take MUH 214 (increases core to 53 hours).

  5. The biological science requirement may also be met by completing either BIO 102 or BIO 111.

  6. The physical science requirements may also be met by completing either CEM 111, or PHY 111 or 211.

  7. Military Science and/or Marching Band do not substitute.
