The Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business offers four (4) areas of undergraduate study. One focused in business administration with a concentration in the music business leading to the Bachelor of Business Administration* degree (B.B.A.); a second focused on the study of the entertainment industries, their diversity, and interaction between society and entertainment-driven commerce and technology leading to either the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree; a third concentrated in the art, science, and practical application of Audio Engineering Technology leading to either the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree, and a fourth in Songwriting focused on the artistic craft and business aspects of professional songwriting leading to either the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. The College also maintains a post-graduate elective specialization in music business within the Masters of Business Administration** (M.B.A.) degree.
Audio Engineering Technology
Students of the Audio Engineering Technology program complete the B.S. or B.A. General Education core and a technical concentration in Audio Engineering Technology. Audio Engineering students also pursue supplemental studies in an approved related discipline (minor) such as computer science, mass communication production, music, or a business discipline such as business administration or entrepreneurship.
Entertainment Industry Studies
Students of the Entertainment Industry Studies program complete either the B.S. or B.A. General Education core with a major in Entertainment Industry Studies (EIS) and supplemental studies in a minor such as communication studies, music, or a business discipline such as business administration or entrepreneurship. Entertainment Industry students also pursue supplemental studies in a unique and innovative “Diversity Convergence” component of industry-related performance, creative, production, writing, and media courses drawn from liberal arts courses.
Music Business
The Music Business program consists of three (3) interrelated areas of study. Music Business students complete the B.B.A. General Education curriculum and a major in Business Administration comprising traditional business courses (such as accounting, finance, management, and economics). All Music Business students also complete the Music Business (MBU) core of courses in general operations and technology as well as music publishing and intellectual properties. Students then choose and complete an emphasis area concentrated in either Music Business or Music Production.
Songwriting
Students in the songwriting program complete either the B.S. or B.A. curriculum with a major in Songwriting and a minor in a related area such as music, music production, or music business. Students take classes in songwriting, music theory and ear training, music publishing, and studio production. The Songwriting program also requires students to complete two mentorships with professional songwriters. The objective of the Songwriting program is to help the student develop his or her artistic craft while gaining a practical understanding of the business aspects of a songwriting career.
