Study Abroad

Belmont students are encouraged to enhance their learningexperience by spending a semester or a year abroad in an intensivelanguage or interdisciplinary program. Belmont is a member of theCooperative Center for Study Abroad, which allows our studentsaccess to study programs in Australia, Barbados, Belize, England,Ghana, Ireland, Kenya, Scotland and Singapore.

Service Learning

In service learning courses, students get their minds and handsaround the material by applying it to the real world. It isimportant to note that service learning goes beyond volunteer work.Through the combination of reading and instruction, deepreflection, and application, you'll benefit just as much asthe community you serve. In the process, you'll see theoryand practice come together in a way that will make your learningmeaningful to you and to others.

Peer Tutoring

The Peer Tutoring Program provides students the opportunity toserve as a link between the professor and students in the class.

Speech & Debate Team

Forensics is public oratory in a competitive format. Studentsprepare speeches in various categories (e.g., poetry, prose,debate, persuasion, etc.) and travel to tournaments where theycompete with 6 other speakers in 3-4 rounds of competition. 


Off Campus Experiences

Washington Center Intern Program
Belmont University's unique Washington Center InternProgram places Belmont students in individualized internships inthe Washington, D.C., area, for which they may earn collegecredits. Washington Center interns also attend seminars andlectures that enrich their on-site experience.

Tennessee Legislative Internships
Students spend the spring semester at the Tennessee GeneralAssembly, where they get the opportunity to study the legislativeprocess and to interact with a variety of professionalpolicymakers. This internship is fulltime and paid; in addition,students earn twelve hours of academic credit for their work.

National Science Foundation Research Experiences forUndergradutes
Every summer, the NSF sponsors several sites across the countrywhere undergraduate students perform research with faculty of thehost schools. Participants are paid a stipend and often providedroom and board for the approximately eight-week programs. Belmontstudents have in the past had very successful experiences in thisprogram. REU sites exist in all areas of science; the NSF maintainsa list ofREU sites, sorted by area.
