Economics
Why Study Economics?
Economics - The study of how society distributes scarce resources to produce goods and services
Economics is a dynamic field of study that challenges students to critically evaluate how the world's systems of commerce operate. If you are analytical and enjoy problem solving, are detail-oriented and work well with others, economics might be an excellent career choice for you. Economists conduct research, collect and analyze data, monitor economic trends and develop forecasts. In addition to providing an excellent foundation for graduate school, a background in economics is also often applicable to careers in business, law and many other fields. Opportunities for economists exist in private industry, consulting firms, governmental agencies and education.
Belmont’s distinguished economics faculty includes a Fulbright Scholar to the College of the Bahamas, an Editorial Board Member and Past President of the Tennessee Economic Association, and an Editorial Board Member for the Journal for Economics Educators. They have made significant contributions to the profession and enjoy sharing their experiences with students.
Students interested in studying economics may choose to earn either a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree or a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree . The B.B.A. degree provides a business background, requiring that students take tool and core courses in the various business disciplines. The B.S. degree does not require students to take business courses but does require completion of either a business or non-business minor.
