Enactus (formerly "Students in Free Enterprise")
Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. Guided by academic advisors and business experts, the student leaders of Enactus create and implement community empowerment projects around the globe. The experience not only transforms lives, it helps students develop the kind of talent and perspective that are essential to leadership in an ever-more complicated and challenging world.
An Enactus (formerly known as "SIFE") chapter was initiated on Belmont's campus during the 2005-2006 academic year. In their rookie year, Belmont's team was comprised of 14 representatives who provided a unique blend of academic experience and extracurricular involvement on Belmont's campus and in their surrounding community. Today, Belmont's team has over 40 active members who remain dedicated to serving our community by sharing knowledge and encouraging success.Throughout the years, Belmont's team has organized a variety of projects, addressing such issues as refugee resettlement, financial literacy, business ethics, job skills training, small business development and environmental sustainability.
Enactus teams present their projects annually for evaluation of their effectiveness and sustainability. Belmont's team achieved Rookie of the Year recognition on both the regional and national levels in 2006 for their efforts. The team has been Champion of its region for six consecutive years and finished among the top 20 in the nation in 2007, 2008 and 2009. In 2010 and 2012, Belmont's team was named USA National Champions, selected by a panel of CEO judges to represent the United States at the World Cup, where our team placed third in the world in 2010 and won the international competition in 2012.
