GRE Strategies Overview

Designed for both those taking the GRE for the first time and those wanting to improve upon a previous GRE score, the Massey School GRE Strategies Course provides 33+ classroom hours of comprehensive overview of GRE structure and scoring as well as detailed analyses of the content of all GRE verbal, quantitative, and essay sections.  Lecture is supplemented with demonstration and numerous brief practice quizzes stressing application of the concepts taught and techniques modeled by the instructor, Jim Stelling.  Students are taught attack strategies, problem simplification methods, and answer evaluation techniques through problem-solving sessions; each morning and afternoon class session includes a brief vocabulary drill.  Assignments emphasize individual drills designed to hone skills and improve efficiency.

Students are expected to bring the results of the ETS/GRE on-line diagnostic test ($15.00 fee, payable to ETS/GRE) to the first class meeting and are encouraged to use the ETS/GRE on-line essay critique service ($13.00 fee, payable to ETS/GRE).  A full-length paper test, supplementing the on-line practice tests students are encouraged to download at no cost from the ETS/GRE web site, is given during the last class meeting.

GRE Strategies students who would benefit from a basic mathematics terminology, concepts and skills refresher should consider taking The Massey School's GRE Foundations of Mathematics course prior to enrolling in the GRE Strategies course.  This highly-focused Friday night/Saturday mathematics review course overviews the mathematics content of the GRE Strategies course, but does not directly address the discrete quantitative, data interpretation, or quantitative comparison problems and solutions covered in the GRE Strategies course.
