The Accelerated Master of Business Administration (Accelerated MBA) is a newer program that was first launched in the 2009-10 academic year. The AMBA is designed for talented individuals with little or no full-time business work experience and who want to either reposition themselves for a career in business or accelerate the rate of advancement in their chosen field of business. Students who have the necessary prerequisite preparation can complete the program in twelve months.
The Accelerated MBA is offered as a full-time MBA program that is both academically challenging and fast-paced. It is not designed for individuals who are working full-time. Students begin course work in the Fall semester and complete the program the following Summer term.
The Massey AMBA Features:
Experience. While full – time work experience is not a requirement for admission to the program, any business experience, including part-time experience and student internships, will pay dividends for the Accelerated MBA student and is certainly encouraged. To assure a minimum of work experience prior to graduation, Accelerated MBA students will be required to complete a significant internship/work experience course component during the program as part of the required curriculum. The College of Business Career Development Center will assist each Accelerated MBA student in meeting this program requirement.
Flexibility. Although the lockstep, full-time format of the Accelerated MBA is not as flexible as a part-time program would allow, each student maintains significant flexibility in terms of how their program is structured. In addition to the required core MBA courses, students select up to four electives (8 out of a total of 34 credits).
Personal Touch. An additional characteristic that sets The Massey School apart from many of its peers is the personal attention given to each student's learning needs. Enrollments are managed to assure small class sizes average of 25 in core classes and average of 13-15 in electives) so that students have significant opportunities to interact with each professor and their peers. All program faculty are deeply committed to making sure that each student's learning environment is an effective one for that individual, and the school works closely with each student to customize a job search plan for the individual's unique skills and abilities.
Program Prerequisites. Most individuals who completed an undergraduate degree in business will find that most, if not all, of their prerequisite course requirements have already been met. However, for others, Belmont offers courses in financial and managerial accounting, macroeconomics and microeconomics, calculus, and statistics in a variety of formats to meet the scheduling needs of many professionals. The School will also help advise incoming students regarding other institutional avenues to fulfilling program prerequisites. Students may enroll in such courses at any regionally accredited college or university. MBA students who require most, if not all, prerequisites course should consider the Summer Business Institute (SBI).
