Dr. Johnson obtained a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia, an M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and, in 2007, a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University.

He began his business career as a Sales Application Engineer for the Parker Hannifin Corporation and held the position of Product Manager for Industrial Automation Products when he left.

With teaching experience as an adjunct instructor in the College of Business Administration at Belmont University and as a teaching assistant at Vanderbilt University, Dr. Johnson describes his teaching interests as New Product Development, Marketing Research, Principles of Marketing and Marketing Strategy.

A new Ph.D., his dissertation was entitled The Role of the Customer in the New Product Development of Radical Innovations. He was a finalist in the Business Marketing Doctoral Dissertation Award competition of the Institute for the Study of Business Markets in 2005. His research interest include: new product development, development of radical innovations, diffusion of innovations, marketing strategy, and management of technology.
