Major in Biology, B.A. or B.S .
The major in biology can lead to either the B.A. or B.S. degree. The difference is in the general education curriculum taken. There are seven different emphases within the biology major:  pre-medical, pre-allied health, pre-pharmacy, secondary education, field biology, marine biology, and general biology.

Major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, B.S.
(joint program with the Department of Chemistry and Physics)
This major combines study in the molecular areas of biology with the biological aspects of chemistry. It contains all the prerequisites for medical school as parts of the major.

Major in Medical Technology, B.S.
This major requires three years at Belmont and the fourth year is spent at Vanderbilt Medical Center or some other accredited school of medical technology. The degree is then granted by Belmont University.

Minor in Biology
The minor in biology is useful for students who wish to combine their major interest with biology, either as a side interest or to obtain employment in a career combining elements of both disciplines.

Affiliation with the Institute of Marine Sciences, Ocean Springs, Mississippi
This affiliation allows Belmont students to take marine science courses at The Institute of Marine Sciences for Belmont credit. Permission to obtain that credit requires pre-approval by the Chair, Department of Biology, Belmont University. Many of these courses will then count toward the major in biology.

Secondary Education Certification
The Department of Biology has a standard curriculum of required biology courses for certification as a secondary education teacher. This curriculum allows freedom for the student to choose among other biology course offerings as well.
