Theme Math Problem
The problem below is in honor of the 2012-13 campus theme, for First-Year Seminar and beyond, of "E Pluribus Unum: Out of Many, One." This kind of problem is called an alphametic.
In an alphametic, each letter must be replaced by a different digit.
Consider the alphametic O U T + O F + M A N Y = U N U M
We'll assume that we'd like to maximize our oneness, so find a solution for the alphametic that makes UNUM as large as possible.
Note: There are eight different letters that appear, so exactly eight of the ten digits 0 through 9 will be used in the solution.
