Infraction and Penalties
Participant Ejection
Any participant(s) ejected from an intramural contest will be ineligible for any future competition, until they meet with the Asst. Director. The Asst. Director will make a ruling on the length of the suspension. The suspension will not begin until after the suspended person has met with the Asst. Director.
Participant(s) ejected from an intramural contest will be suspended from all intramurals for a Mandatory Minimum of one game. Any player suspended from an intramural contest may also have to complete an Emotions/ Anger Management Program or Counseling.
Any person that is ejected from an intramural contest is to leave the field/ court immediately (entire recreational facility) or risk further disciplinary actions. That participant will jeopardize his or her teams/organizations game status. If that person does not leave the area within three minutes, his or her team will forfeit that game. If the Belmont Department Safety and Security has to be called due to an ejected player not wanting to leave the premises or disrupting a game/contest that participant will automatically be suspended from all intramural events for one year.
Please refer to the Statement of Values for Belmont University in the Bruin Guide for more information on what is acceptable and what kind of behavior is unacceptable.
Equipment Damage
Any damages to equipment, fields or the Beaman Student Life Center that have not occurred within the frame work of the intramural event will be charged to the offending participant(s). He or she will be financially responsible for any and all deliberate or negligent destruction to the BSLC, fields, or equipment.
I. Death Penalty – Intramural Officials
Any participant, coach, or fan that shoves, pushes, bumps, brushes, punches, spits, throws equipment, or verbally attacks an intramural staff member or official in any manner will automatically be suspended from all intramural programs for the remainder of their academic and/or professional career or from any alumni events at Belmont University. Further disciplinary actions may be pursued if warranted. Any abusive remarks or threatening language directed towards an intramural staff member that is considered unsportsmanlike will place that person or people on automatic probation for a one year time period and/or suspend them from all intramural activities permanently. Each case will be reviewed on an individual basis.
II. Death Penalty – Fighting
Any and all types of illegal physical contact, illegal spitting, illegal verbal attacks or other combative actions involving fans, players, coaches, captains, teammates, and intramural staff members will suspend that participant(s) from all intramural events for the rest of his or her academic or professional career and from any alumni events at Belmont University. Depending on the severity of the incident, further disciplinary action may be warranted. Any and all types of violence will not be tolerated. The intramural sports staff will also enforce the Statement of Values for Belmont University listed in the Bruin Guide.
Teams Leaving the Bench Area
Any team/organization or player that leaves the bench/sideline area during an intramural contest to engage in an altercation for any reason will be suspended for a Mandatory Minimum of one game. Leaving the bench area will also cause the team(s) to forfeit the contest, be put on probation and possibly suspended from play for the remainder of the semester, depending on the nature of the circumstances.
Asst. Director’s Rule
The Asst. Director reserves the right to put into effect any new ruling pertaining to Intramural Sports and unsportsmanlike behavior and fair play and the safety of all participants. The Assistant Director can also take any individual and their actions to the Belmont University Student Disciplinary Committee for review.
Belmont University ID
All Intramural participants MUST have a current and valid Belmont University Identification Card. If a participant’s BU ID card is not legible (photo or name) or does not have a student ID number that corresponds with his or her team’s roster that participant must have a form of photo identification in order to be allowed to participate. Proper identification is needed to be shown at all games. If you do not have the proper identification, you will not be allowed to participate until you obtain the proper identification. If you use an improper identification card, you will be suspended from all intramurals for one year.
Mandatory Team Representative Information Meeting
Every team/organization must have a representative in attendance at all scheduled information meetings. If a team/organization is not in attendance at a scheduled meeting, they will not be permitted to participate in that event. There must be a representative for each team or organization. Once the Captain’s meeting has been completed the schedule will be posted with only the teams that were present at the meeting and have signed the official sign-in sheet. At the information meeting, there will be explanations of rules, regulations and scheduling along with a question and answer period. The Intramural staff will inform participants of when and what time the information meetings will take place. All information meetings will be held in the Beaman Center. You MUST attend an information meeting in order to participate. Any individual/team that is late for the Information Meeting will be considered no-shows and will not be included in that event.
Second Chance Entry
Any team/organization or individual that did not turn in a roster by the deadline will be put on a waiting list. These teams MUST attend the Information Meeting for that sport/event. If a team does not attend the Information Meeting or drops out before the schedule is completed, the teams on the waiting list will be allowed to take that team’s place. If no team(s) drops out or all teams attend the Information Meeting, the teams on the waiting list will not be permitted to enter the contest.
Forfeits, Defaults, and Protests
Forfeit
A forfeit is when a team does not show up for a scheduled contest. A team is allowed one forfeit in any double elimination tournament, pool, or league play. A team can not forfeit in a single elimination tournament or playoff game.
Forfeit Deposit
Every team needs to drop off 2 $10.00 (CHECK OR MONEY ORDER ONLY) refundable forfeit deposits for each team entered in a sport/event. Every individual will pay a $5.00 (CHECK OR MONEY ORDER ONLY) refundable forfeit deposit. All forfeit deposits are due at that sport/events Information Meeting or before the Beaman Center closes on the day of that Information Meeting. A maximum of two forfeits ($20.00 total) will be assessed in a given sport. If a team/organization does not forfeit a game they will have their forfeit deposit returned after the event has been concluded.
Two Forfeit Rule
A team is allowed two forfeits per event unless it is a single elimination tournament. The first forfeit will result in the team losing a game and their $10.00 forfeit deposit. A team that forfeits a contest must supply the Intramural Staff another forfeit deposit before they will be allowed to participate again. The second forfeit will cause the team to be disqualified from any further competition and the team will lose their second forfeit fee.
Defaults
A team is allowed two defaults per event (Unless it is a single elimination tournament or a single elimination playoff). A default is used when a team/organization is unable to field a team that is scheduled to play a game. A defaulted game will not count as a forfeit and it will not cost the team their forfeit deposit. It will count as a loss in the standings. For example, if a team is two players short of the minimum required to field a team in a particular sport, rather than forfeit the game they may choose to use one of their two allotted defaults. They will be assessed a loss and will be allowed to participate in their next scheduled contest. All Defaults must be verified by an Intramural Staff Member. A default cannot be used after the contest has already begun. It must be turned in beforehand.
Protests
Game Protests: You may only protest a player’s eligibility. Any other disagreements will be settled on the field/court by the captains and the Intramural Staff. All decisions are final.
Eligibility Protests: You may protest a player’s eligibility. You must have your protest typed and submitted no later than 1 PM the day after the game. All protests that do not meet the deadline (the day after the protested event) and are not typed will not be reviewed. Free Agents
Free agents are individuals that are not members of a team but would like to join one. The Intramural Office will make a list available to prospective players and teams. The Intramural Staff will not place a person on a team. We will furnish interested teams with player information. Team Captain’s Responsibilities If there are enough players, a “Free Agent” team will be organized and entered into a league or tournament.
Entry Forms
Team captains are responsible for filling out all entry and related forms.
Mandatory Meetings
Captains are responsible for attending all scheduled meetings.

1. Sportsmanship Rating
2. Number of Forfeits or Defaults
3. Head to Head Competition
4. Winning Percentage
5. Common Opponents
6. Points for and against +/-
