National Walking Day

Step by step, day after day, you walk to make progress. Every day we take thousands of steps to get where we need to go. Now we can take steps toward a healthier workplace and support the American Heart Association. Belmont University will join the American Heart Association in celebrating National Walking Day. It is a day to challenge ourselves and our nation to get heart healthy and fit. There will be several events throughout the day concerning the benefits of walking and even some opportunities to get active around campus.

More Information About Our 2020 Celebration will be posted in Spring 2020!

Stay Tuned.

Walking Groups

During Belmont’s National Walking Day celebration in the spring of 2018, many folks expressed interest in walking together on a more consistent basis.  Walking groups will begin their journey toward being the healthiest campus in the country in the summer of 2018 and below are the names of the walking leaders with the contact information and the days and times at which they will be meeting. As of now, all walking groups will be meeting at the McWhorter fountain. For more information about each group or to connect with a group leader, you can email them at the addresses included below.

Mondays at noon with Caitlin Haskell (Caitlin.haskell@belmont.edu) - meet at the McWhorter Fountain

Tuesdays at 1 PM with Chris Millar (chris.millar@belmont.edu) - meet at the McWhorter Fountain   (beginning August 28th)

Thursdays at 12:30 with Dr. Jonathan Thorndike (jonathan.thorndike@belmont.edu) - meet at the McWhorter Fountain

Thursdays at 1pm with Misty Wellman (misty.wellman@belmont.edu)  - meet at the McWhorter Fountain

Fridays at 10:45 with Laura Hyde (laura.hyde@belmont.edu) - meet at McWhorter Fountain (beginning August 31st)

No experience is needed and the only things you need to bring are a good attitude, water, and a pair of shoes made for walking.

We are excited about this step toward being the healthiest campus in the country and are pleased to announce that we will be adding more days and times once classes begin. If you are interested in leading a group on a day or at a time that has not been listed above, please do not hesitate to contact Jamie Zeller at james.zeller@belmont.edu or Joe Mankowski at joe.mankowski@belmont.edu in the Department of Fitness and Recreation.

Thank you to everyone who is helping to make this program a reality and BeWellBU!
