Opportunities in the Community...
Opportunities to get involved in the arts and the local art community abound. Art education students participate in student teaching. Design Communications students internships offer a view into the work world experiencing publishing, advertising agencies, design studios, web companies and galleries among others. Opportunities also exist for studio majors to work in one of the many local galleries, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, or the Cheekwood Museum of Art, as well as local charity events.
Giving to the Nashville Community
Students from Belmont's Art Department are currently serving as volunteer art instructors for the homeless population at The Campus For Human Development/Room at The Inn in Nashville. All BFA and BA students are welcome to participate in this innovative program. Other opportunities for collaboration with the Campus develop yearly. Current plans include a partnership between individual students and residents to create jointly-inspired works of art for display and sale.
Community at Belmont - BLVD
BLVD Studios is a for-profit, student-run photo-gallery and design business located near the Curb Events Center on Belmont's campus. BLVD Studios offers a fully-operational graphics and portrait photography studio providing services to both the campus and the Nashville community. BLVD is a 'hands-on' working environment which offers qualified students the chance to learn and practice business skills that will serve them in the post-graduate world, and is a collaboration between the Belmont Center for Entrepreneurship, the Art Council and the Art Department. BLVD's Board of Directors is drawn from these groups and supports the election each year of students who will manage the business.
