Jennifer L. Stoneking-Stewart

Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Jennifer Stoneking-Stewart received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2005, with an emphasis in Printmaking, and her Master of Fine Arts degree from Clemson University in 2007, also with an emphasis in Printmaking. She is currently a full-time Instructor of Art at Belmont University in Nashville, TN where she teaches Printmaking and Foundations.
Her work in printmaking is a response to her environment and the changes that she perceives rapidly occurring, such as urban sprawl. Most of these events are uncontrollable by the individual, yet nonetheless upsetting. Therefore, she compares the geometric sprawl of cities to the uncontrollable organic growth of diseases by creating a scenario of cause and effect where the victor is unknown.
She is very active in academic and printmaking organization and conferences, such as College Art Association where she serves on the Student and Emerging Professionals Committee and will be a co-chair for a session at the 2010 Chicago conference, Southeastern College Art Conference, where she will be presenting a paper at the upcoming meeting in Mobile, AL, Southern Graphics Council where she has exhibited and participated in portfolio exchanges, and Mid-American Print Council.
She has exhibited works nationally in both juried, group, and solo shows. Recent shows include New Works at the Balcony at The Emporium in Knoxville, TN, A Typically Sudden Collapse? at Belmont University’s Gallery 121 in Nashville, TN, Endless Progression at the Renaissance Center in Dickson, TN, and Transparent Iridescence at the Arts Council in Greenwood, SC. She received the “Best in Show” award for her print Connection at the 41st Annual Appalachian Arts Show in Kingsport, TN, and in 2007, she was named the Artist of the Month through the Arts Electric, Inc. co-op in Anderson, SC. She has prints in various private collections, archives, and public collections across the nation.
