I have wanted to be a nurse from the time I was a little girl. My father was a surgeon in the small town in California where I grew up and I would often watch surgery and make rounds with him. I attended Vanderbilt University for my bachelor's and master's degrees. My focus in graduate school was adult patients with chronic diseases. I taught at Vanderbilt for several years and then came to Belmont (part-time when my sons were young and then eventually full-time). I love teaching at Belmont because it is so student-centered.

Outside of work, I like spending time with my husband and our two sons, both of whom are in college. We travel a lot both in the U.S. and abroad, and spend part of each summer in New England at our lake house. I enjoy gardening, walking, canoeing, reading and doing crossword puzzles (the harder, the better!).
