It's true - I really did want to be a nurse when I was a little girl! After graduating from high school, I began my nursing education in a diploma program at Kentucky Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Louisville, Ky. I soon realized that I would need further education to advance in nursing. I then attended University of Louisville and earned a B.S.N. and M.S.N. while working full time. Lastly, I received an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Peabody at Vanderbilt University.
My clinical focus has been in pediatric nursing and perioperative nursing. I taught nursing at Kentucky Baptist Hospital and Bellarmine College in Louisville, Ky. I also held various positions at Kosair Children's Hospital. In 1992, my husband and I moved to Houston, Texas. While there, I worked at Texas Children's Hospital and University of Texas-Houston. (As you can tell, I love both clinical practice and academics). I moved to Nashville in 1999 and held a position as Assistant Administrator of Perioperative and Procedural Services at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. I enjoy publishing in the areas of pediatric and perioperative nursing.
I joined Belmont in 2004. I teach classes in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. In addition, I serve as the Executive Director of the Partners in Nursing Program. I believe that nursing is an exciting, challenging career. There are so many opportunities to make a difference in the lives of patients and families.
Outside of work, I love to spend time with my husband listening to music and traveling in the United States and overseas. We enjoy visiting our sons in California and our daughter and son-in-law in Atlanta. We especially enjoy spoiling our grandchildren.
I urge you to consider nursing. It is a rewarding career!
