Robert Wood Johnson Scholars
New Careers in Nursing Scholarship Program
Belmont University School of Nursing is pleased to announce a unique scholarship opportunity for select students enrolling in the Accelerated BSN Second Degree Nursing program funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation: New Careers in Nursing Program. The purpose of the scholarship is to alleviate the nursing shortage and increase the diversity of nurses by providing financial assistance to select students pursuing the Accelerated BSN Nursing program at Belmont University beginning in January 2010.
The scholarship program specifically targets those underrepresented in the field of nursing, and will be awarded to groups underrepresented in nursing or disadvantaged backgrounds. Men, minorities, or students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds may apply for this grant and must meet the admission criteria for the Accelerated BSN program as well as apply for the New Careers in Nursing Scholarship program using the Robert Wood Johnson Scholars New Careers in Nursing Scholarship Application Form. The scholarship will be granted during the first year to each award recipient and applied toward the cost of tuition and academic fees.
Application Eligibility Requirements:
- Are from groups that are underrepresented in nursing (men and minorities) or from an economically-disadvantaged background
- Are citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its territories at the time of application
- Have been accepted in an entry-level accelerated baccalaureate nursing program
- Complete a letter of commitment
- Are committed to pursuing professional nursing licensure through the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX)
Application Procedures:
- Complete the Robert Wood Johnson Scholars New Careers in Nursing Scholarship Application Form and submit to the School of Nursing Scholarship Committee
- Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Please include a copy of your FAFSA with the Scholarship Application
Award Selection Process:
- Applicants will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee and ranked according to the following criteria: Essay, GPA, financial need, and community involvement.
- Applicants who have been awarded a scholarship will receive written notification by mail.

- November 1 , 2009
Award Amount:
- 10,000.00 for one year only
