Bluegrass Ensemble

Bluegrass Ensemble (MUN 4840) is an instrumental and vocal ensemble that provides a challenging and creative environment for students to develop material with the feel and structure of Bluegrass music. The ensemble has drawn from traditional and contemporary sources including: original music, Bill Monroe, the Osborne Bros., Alison Krauss, Bob Wills, Mozart, Vivaldi, and songs sung in French and Japanese.

The ensemble performs at various events during the year. Recent performances include: backing Chely Wright and a full concert at the Ryman Auditorium, performing for Alan Greenspan at the Country Music Hall of Fame, opening for Tracy Byrd at the National Entertainment Buyer's Association Conference and being interviewed for NPR's Bluegrass Breakdown for national syndication. Ensemble members are expected to participate for two consecutive semesters (fall and spring). The group meets Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00pm to 4:15pm. This course offers one hour of ensemble credit.
