Belmont Jazz String Septet
Belmont Jazz String Septet, directed by Tracy Silverman.
Belmont Jazz String Septet combines an amplified string quartet with a traditional rhythm section of piano, bass, and drums. It specializes in adapting classic horn arrangements for use with a string ensemble. In its very first performance, the ensemble received high honors at the 2002 University of Louisville Jazz Festival. The group was featured at the 2005 ASTA Conference in Reno, Nevada.
The focus of the course is the preparation of jazz string septet arrangements and development of alternative string techniques and the ability to solo in a jazz ensemble. Attention is given to ensemble playing in the style of jazz horn sections.
Rehearsals are scheduled by the director. This course offers one hour of ensemble credit.
