Belmont Guitar Ensemble

Guitar Ensemble

Belmont Guitar Ensemble, directed by Mr. Robert Thompson.

The Belmont Guitar Ensemble (MUN 4850) provides an exciting environment for guitar majors, minors, and elective students to improve sight-reading skills and refine classical/fingerstyle guitar techniques while earning ensemble credit. Each semester students perform challenging duo, trio, quartet, and guitar orchestra arrangements. Repertoire ranges from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern periods focusing on music by a variety of guitar composers from around the world.

In 2006 the Belmont Guitar Ensemble made their exciting NPR debut on the WPLN radio show “Live In Studio C”. A guitar quartet from the Belmont Guitar Ensemble is featured on the new Belmont School of Music Ensemble CD performing Paulo Bellinati’s “Baiao de Gude”. In 2005 a group from the class was selected to perform at Belmont's 16th Annual President's Concert. Members from the ensemble were featured on the CD release 'Christmas at Belmont' performing the 'Arabian Dance' by Tchaikovsky from 'The Nutcracker Suite' released on Acklen Records. The Belmont Guitar Ensemble was founded by its current Director, Robert Thompson in 1995. Since its inception the Ensemble has presented many recitals on the Belmont campus and off campus at some of Nashville's most prestigious venues for chamber music.

Rehearsals are from 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This course offers one hour of ensemble credit. One required performance is performed each semester on the Belmont campus.
