The School of Music Audition procedures provide opportunity for the graduate faculty to make a comprehensive decision on audition candidates to the School of Music.
Master of Music Admissions Requirements
A. To be considered for admission, all Belmont University applicants must submit the following:
- A completed Belmont University Graduate Studies Application for Admission.
- Two completed recommendation forms from individuals who know applicant's musical and scholastic abilities.
- The $50 non-refundable application fee.
- Official transcripts of all previous college and masters level work.
- A one page statement of goals as a musician.
B. Additionally, students seeking admission to the School of Music must also submit:
- A completed Graduate Studies in Music Application Supplement.
- A copy of a printed program from a junior and/or senior undergraduate recital.
- A complete undergraduate repertory list in the principal performing area.
- Scores from the GRE taken within the last five years. Anticipated scores for an entering student are 300 (1000 if taken prior to August 2011) on the GRE verbal and quantitative combined and 3.5 on the analytical writing. Contact the Graduate Secretary if you have a valid MAT score.
- COMMERCIAL MUSIC APPLICANTS ONLY: As a part of the application process, all students applying for admission to the MM in Commercial Music must submit a pre-screening recording. This recording must be submitted and approved prior to scheduling an interview and live audition. Details of the recording requirement are available here.
C. Additionally, School of Music Applicants must:
- Have earned at least a 2.75 cumulative undergraduate grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 3.0 average in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work to be fully admitted. A student may receive probationary acceptance with a 2.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 2.75 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work. By maintaining a minimum cumulative graduate GPA for the first two semesters at Belmont, probation is lifted.
- Complete an audition and an interview with the Director of Graduate Studies in Music.
- Successfully complete the School of Music entrance examination (which covers Music History and Music Theory) prior to beginning coursework. Review courses are required for students who do not successfully complete these entrance examinations. Review courses may count as elective hours.
Students auditioning for the classical majors are required to submit the graduate application and to request an audition date postmarked three weeks before the desired published audition date.
Students auditioning for the Commercial Music major are required to submit the graduate application and pre-screening recording (and scores, if media composition/arranging) postmarked no later than one month before the desired published audition date.

**Friday, February 12, 2016 (Fall 2016, all majors, admission/scholarship consideration)
**Friday, February 26, 2016 (Fall 2016, all majors, admission/scholarship consideration)
***January 26, 2016, is the last day to apply for Commercial Music***
1. Musical Theatre literature is not appropriate for a classical voice audition.
2. Classical literature is not appropriate for a commercial audition.
