Belmont Academy began in 1981 as the Piano Preparatory Department of the Belmont University School of Music and was founded by Linda Ford and Dr. Jerry Warren. In May of 1996, the University established Belmont Academy to offer lessons in all disciplines.
The Academy currently offers private instruction in piano, traditional and Suzuki strings, guitar, banjo, mandolin, flute, oboe, bassoon and classical/commercial voice. Other instrumental instruction is available through Belmont Academy in various disciplines for winds, brass and percussion. Contact the Belmont Academy office for more details. The Nashville Children's Choir and Nashville Youth Singers are also a part of the Academy.
Additional camps, master classes, and ensemble and chamber music opportunities are also occasionally offered. The Academy's faculty members are dedicated professional teachers.
Belmont Academy offers two 14-week semesters beginning in mid-August and ending in May. The summer is an 8-week session and begins in June. Students participate in performances offered throughout the school year, including recitals in December and May. The administration attempts to place students with a teacher whose personality and abilities meet the needs of the student.
Our mission is to offer an environment in which
students of diverse backgrounds and ages
have the opportunity to explore their unique
musical talents and to bring the best of themselves,
their creativity, and their intellectual skills to
their musical studies.
The first priority of Belmont Academy is the student. The overall goals of the Academy are:
- To guide our students in attaining a high level of music education by improved proficiency at his/her instrument
- To instill a practice ethic that will help each student realize his or her individual potential and instill appreciation of life-long learning.
- To lead all students (from beginning to advanced) to technical proficiency, excellent musicianship, and professional presentation
The Belmont Academy office and studios are located in the Massey Performing Arts Center on the Belmont University campus. Belmont University is located approximately 3 miles south of downtown Nashville.
